"Light, Love, and the Ornament of Pomeranian Lands" – The Life and Work of Daniel Cramer

Daniel Cramer (1568–1637) was an eminent theologian whose work contributed to the flourishing of the so-called Golden Age of Pomerania. He gained widespread European fame through his poetic emblems, published by the renowned Frankfurt printer Matthäus Merian. Cramer is also remembered as the author of an extensive and highly erudite chronicle of the Pomeranian Church, as well as a passionate polemicist—his opponents included, among others, the royal preacher Piotr Skarga SJ and the General Superintendent of Brandenburg, Christoph Pelargus. The lecture will present Cramer’s biography and highlight the most important works of this remarkable humanist.
