“Stargard – a city that glories in its bounty and is renowned for the same”

How did one of Pomerania's most important cities rise to prominence over the centuries? What goods reached Stargard, what occupations shaped the lives of its inhabitants, and why did the city become one of the wealthiest urban centres in the region? The answers to these questions can be found in the temporary exhibition Stargard – A City Renowned for Its Riches and Prosperity.
The exhibition presents the history of Stargard from its foundation under town law in the 13th century to the beginning of the 18th century. It tells the story of the city's dynamic development, its inhabitants, and the wealth that shaped its economic, political, and cultural significance over the centuries.
Visitors are guided through successive chapters of Stargard's history—from its impressive medieval fortifications and monumental churches, through the everyday lives of its burghers and the development of trade and crafts, to its extensive commercial connections with the Hanseatic League and the countries of the Baltic Sea region. Particular attention is devoted to Stargard's merchants, craftsmen, scholars, and clergy, whose achievements contributed to the city's importance for generations.
The exhibition features several hundred artefacts from the collections of the Museum of Archaeology and History in Stargard, as well as objects on loan from museums, archives, libraries, and parishes across Poland. Highlights include works of art, rare historical documents, archaeological finds, everyday objects, and numerous exhibits presented in Stargard for the first time in many years.
The exhibition is enhanced by reconstructions, scale models, sensory stations, and multimedia installations, making the city's history engaging and accessible for visitors of all ages. It also incorporates a range of accessibility features designed for visitors with diverse needs.
The exhibition is open until June 2029.
